When the Doc is away...

I don't get decent hours!!

I only worked Wednesday and Today, which isn't good for my paycheck - but I think it was good for my sanity this week.

Last Monday: I started complaining about some pain I was having.
Last Tuesday: Some serious shit started happening and I was all like, WTF?
Last Wednesday: Called in to work, nothing was getting better.
Last Thursday: Went in to see the Doc, had some blood work done.
Last Saturday: Went in to the hospital lab for more blood work to confirm things.
This Monday: They called and said I'd be fine, but I need yet more blood work next week.
Today: I'm feeling 100% again, no weird symptoms.

So... I'm being intentionally vague, I know. But trust me, it was an awful week.  I'm glad I've had some time off this week - but I REALLY need to get back to work to you know.. pay bills and things.

Here's some things I accomplished at work today while the doctor's in Cancun.

  • Called and confirmed all appointments for Monday.
  • Double checked all co-pays.
  • Did some much needed organizing of last year's paper work.
  • Checked Lamebook and Failbook.  These two sites often overlap, but they are hilarious and make me feel better about myself sometimes. Some schadenfreude going on there.
  • Assured some poor lady that her teeth were, in fact, not going to fall out by Monday when we had time to see her.  There are very few DENTAL emergencies, people.
Very productive!

Also, Holiday plans are starting to shape up.

  1. Thanksgiving:  My parents and my sister (Amanda) are coming to the house.  We're going to pretend the Saturday after Turkey day is Christmas, since we won't be able to see them in December. I'm hella excited.
  2. Christmas: Looks like we're going to be in North Carolina for like two days.  Probably at the Lake at the Inlaws.
  3. New Years: I've invited Mario and Quinn up here! Mario I know from Houston and Quinn I know from my online gaming addiction (World of Warcraft).  Mario plays too.  I'm thinking about asking if any other guildies (people in my guild on WoW,  Reckless Ascension) want to come too. Hmm.. I shall ask the Spouse.

And now, for something completely unrelated. Me as a Pirate, Houston Ren Faire, 2010.

Peace!

BLOGGING???!!!

Who does that kind of stuff??  Everyone? ok.

I'm usually not an "everyone" kind of person, but I kinda like the idea of keeping a blog. So let me introduce myself.

My name is Jessica,  I am 27 years old and married to an amazing man named Kenneth.  We met in college where we were both pursuing degrees in music. I have held a TON of jobs in my day; including coffehouse barista (done, thank god!), private voice lesson instructor (ongoing),  Gamestop manager (So thankful that's over!), paid church staff singer (5 different churches and 1 temple over the years. No longer!), and finally dental office manager.  My husband and I have recently moved to Cincinnati, OH - where he is working on his DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts).  We're here for about 3 years, then after that - who knows?

I love to read, mostly sci-fi/fantasy stuff with a healthy dose of historical fiction.  I don't do suspense or medical thrillers, and I can't stand watching those on TV either. I love pools but am not a huge fan of the beach.  I like video games but lately I've been addicted to WoW(World of Warcraft).

My ultimate goal in life is to teach privately out of my own home and follow my husband around the world in his career. Kids will be in there somewhere, I'm sure. :)

Invictus

I watched Invictus with my husband last night.  It is the film of Nelson Mandela and his involvement with the South African Rugby team.  This amazing man, held prisoner for 27 years, made a choice to be hopeful, and often sought solace in a poem.

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

William Ernest Henley (1849–1903)

The last two lines are very meaningful to me.  Enjoy.
